Negative stress
The positive effect obtained from the symptoms of stress at work
When we perceive our workplace as an arena of constant risk, prolonged stress can generate a series of physical and psychological symptoms.
When you pass an “alerting reaction” of a temporary duration of a “surveillance state” held at the time, the body releases cortisol, corticosteroids, mainly generated by everyday stress. That is, negative stress or distress is caused by the body’s reaction to a “danger signal” low intensity but long duration.
One of the consequences of this permanent state of alert is that it affects the immune system, lower the natural defenses and, therefore, exposes the body to disease.
The World Health Organization defines stress as “the nonspecific response of the body to any demand for change.” Employment-related changes that are interpreted as threats in the environment and exceed our capacity for effective action, cause stress disorder.
When people feel that they have difficulty adapting to the challenges of constant change, when the effectiveness of their performance is below the required levels, when forced to compete excessively, when they fail to professional development to meet your expectations or when their job security is threatened, it is likely to generate a continuous emotional stress, begin to manifest symptoms of fatigue and that this will lead to personal crisis and possibly the disease.
At present, the option may be to ask for help. The picture that emerges as the most suitable and indicated to assist these processes of learning and change, is that of coach.
